Lamp:Amber Reason:The turbocharger shaft has seized. Effect:Possible reduced engine performance. Circuit Description:The turbocharger speed sensor is a hall effect type sensor. The Engine Control Module (ECM) provides a 5 volt supply to the position sensor and a return circuit. As the blades of the turbocharger spin past the speed sensor, a signal is generated on the position sensor signal circuit. The ECM interprets this signal and converts it to a turbo speed. Component Location:The turbocharger speed sensor is located on the high pressure compressor housing. Circuit Description:The aftertreatment outlet NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) sensor is a smart device and communicates with the Engine Control Module (ECM) via the J1939 data link. The aftertreatment outlet NOx sensor performs its own internal diagnostics and reports malfunctions back to the primary ECM using the J1939 data link.
